Hi,

I'm looking to move into a new place in the area of Irving Park Rd - between Fremont and Lakeshore Drive. One building is on Fremont St, two blocks south of Irving Park Rd. The other building is around Irving Park Rd and Clarendon.

Does anyone have tips on the general area?

I see some people say its "too close to uptown", but it seems pretty safe to me. And it seems to have a decent amount of activity compared to other areas west of Clark and Irving Park where its usually pretty quiet.

Let me know any thoughts! Thanks!

I lived in that immediate area for 20 years (only moving out three months ago because I left town). It's fine.

If you have a car, make sure you have a parking space so that you dont rely on street parking.

It's fine - the part of Uptown that it's near is Buena Park which is nice and tame. Nothing to be worried about there. Anyone who says "it's too close to Uptown" in a bad way doesn't know **** about the area and is probably afraid to go out of their own homes.

Welcome!

Nothing wrong with uptown either. Just a small part of it is a little sketchy but look at it this way. I feel ok with walking my young kids to Target, close to Broadway and Wilson in the so called sketchy part of Uptown, after dark. Just be street smart. That's all.
Uptown is very interesting. We have the ghetto part but just a block away are really nice houses /apartments. It's close to my beloved Andersonville too

I'd go with the one closer to the Red Line, other things being equal.

I lived in Uptown back in '05 on Malden st. just off of Wilson. Back then, the sketchy area was along Sheridan and also along Broadway where they meet Wilson. Things have certainly changed since then and have only gotten better. I never had an issue and I used to ride the L at all hours of the night. You just need to be aware of your surroundings, and that applies to anywhere in the city. Uptown is a great nabe, I loved my years up there.

May I ask why the location closer to the Red Line is more favorable to you?

Just a shorter walk to use the El.

It's fine. I prefer the location 2 blocks south of Irving Park because it's quieter and closer to the train station.
