I have the AT&T $35 Monthly up to 6 MBps download speed DSL and it's awesome! Big plus is the FREE NATIONWIDE WIFI HOTSPOTS in every Barnes & Noble and Starbucks! - This really help when traveling and on vacation!

But check your download speed after they hook it up. AT&T cheated me in Houston, - I got 1.5 MBps download speed when I was supposed to have 3.0 MBps speeds.

And AT&T hasn't sent me my $100 refund check for signing up in Chicago yet! AT&T is a bunch of CHEATERS!

RCN hunh? I've had it for the past year and have really spotty service. Again, I'm not sure if it's the wiring within the building or the service itself. Thanks for everyone's input.

I had RCN for a few years ..paid for the megamodem service and never had any issues w/ speed and reliability, and their broadband tech support was actually knowledgable ..
AT&T has up to 6mpbs throughout its DSL coverage areas and up to 20mbps in some parts of it. I have 6mbps and it's more than adequate for video conferencing, streaming media, etc. and is certainly overkill for your average surfer. And like Jesse says, free wi-fi access at Starbucks and B&N is a nice perk.

Yep, AT&T is great for dry-loop/internet only service. I had it at my Bridgeport apartment and it was only $19 a month for 768K service. I browsed just fine with that speed. Unfortunately, they weren't servicing my Albany Park apartment, so I had to go with crappy clear internet.

I'm dredging up an old thread.

Comcast just raised my rate out of the promo price so it is too expensive for me now. AT&T naked u-verse dsl is available where I will be living, but when I tried to order it, they just got really really confused and apparently had some major issues (also made me question their customer service skills). So are there any options now, a year later? RCN is not available. For an apartment in Old Irving Park.

I've had both SBC & Comcast. Although Comcast claimed to have super speed @ 12mb, I deterined SBC was much faster @ 6mb. The DSL was also more reliable & I rarely had to call customer service to check on issues w/ connectivity. I've been w/ SBC for the last 10 yrs. Plus I hate Comcast's promo price switches. I've forgotten to call a couple times & discovered the next months bill increased $20 to 30 bucks. Although a pain, I guess trial & error is about the best way to find out which works best for you.
