Interviewing in Chicago later this month and perhaps moving in early spring from Miami. Looking for a studio apartment in a nice area with public transportation close, as well as a supermarket, movie rental, restaurants etc. If anyone has any suggestions in regards to an area that is close to the action but not filled with drunk college kids, I would be grateful. I'm 30/single/male/professional and would like to be in area where I could meet some people similar. Thanks Again.

Off hand, I'd say Lakeview might be the sort of area you're looking for.

I will tell you, if I was openly gay, I would not live anywhere on the South Side. It is very dangerous to be an openly gay male on the South Side.

What area do you plan on working in? What sort of bars and eateries do you prefer? Shopping? $1000 will get you a studio almost anywhere and most places for far less than $1000...

Chicago is not very mixed throughout the entire city. Even in the neighborhoods (which are not very many) with the largest openly gay populations the percentage is about 50% gay-50% straight.
All I am saying is if you are gay or bi (which you stated you are not but for the record...), there are areas you will be totally accepted, others where people will not care too much for the most part (but are not gay utopias), and areas where to be openly gay is dangerous unfortunately.
Chicago is very accepting, but it is no Miami or San Francisco.
