The southern part of the Andersonville strip on Clark is in Uptown (anything south of Foster). So, a popular "Andersonville" business like the Hopleaf is actually in Uptown, as are several others. And you better believe that real estate agents are calling Uptown properties "Andsersonville" on, say, the 1400 block of Carmen, every chance they get.

Default Neighborhood Names

I came across a Craigslist ad for an apartment. The apartment was located at Wilson and Beacon. The neighborhood was listed as "South Andersonvile" This really surprised me because I always thought that Wilson and Beacon were in North Wrigleyville. Or perhaps in Far North Lincoln Park.

Anyone have other examples of creative neighborhood names?

Ha! I had not seen that one before. Almost as good as West Bucktown.

Close by the Wilson red line stop and the Truman college too. I'm sure you could befriend some eclectic folks in that part of "South Andersonville."

It is the kind of area where, if you drop in at one of the local taverns, they ask you at the door if you have a knife. If you tell them no they hand you one.

There is a part of Andersonville that some residents call "South Andersonville" or "SoFo" (South of Foster). It ends at Ainslie. To say that it ends at Wilson is patently ridiculous.

I wouldn't say so necessarily. The area south of Foster near Clark street (especially to the east) has changed sufficiently to the point that a) It has much more in common with Andersonville than Uptown, b) the neighborhood lamp post signs extend to Ainslie, granting it a certain civic 'credence' and c) everyone calls it Andersonville.

Neighborhood boundaries change. Community areas do not (i.e., it's still Uptown CA).
