Work at S State / W 31st (Zip code 60616) - Where to live? (Chicago: apartments)

Hi everybody,

I am doing research for friends who are considering moving to Chicago. He would work in the zip code area 60616, close to South State and W 33st St. Where would you recommend they live? Here are some requirements:
- Area as safe as possible
- Good public schools (son is in Kindergarten)
- They would rent for a year before they buy, need 3 bedrooms
- Would be nice to keep commute to under 30 minutes
- Rent probably not much more than $1,500 / month

Questions:
- Which neighborhood, zip codes fulfill these requirements?
- How much would rent be per month for 3 bedrooms?
- Can you give me options for areas in the city and burbs?

Prairie Shores and Lake Meadows are apartments in that area. They're a block east of the Lake and there are great schools in the area. A grocery store is close buy and there are tons of parks and play areas for children. South Commons are rental units and condos...and there are some new condo construction in the area. It's a safe neighborhood. Prairie Shores and Lake Meadows has 2 and 3 bedroom apts for rent for less that $1900.00 a month.
