Agree about Lake Shore Drive. Rush St. is known by Chicagoans for the nightlife but probably not many outside of the locals.

But Lake Shore Drive is more like an expressway. I am talking about streets known for their shopping, pedestrian activity, restaurants and what not.

The 606 is the latest spur to development along the Avenue. And BTW, it no longer runs all the way to its namesake city. It ends in Gurnee where it hits US 41.

How about Lincoln Avenue below Lawrence Avenue? That was one of my favorite streets in Chicago for the things you mentioned.

Back in the day, Lincoln Avenue was a big thing as was Broadway... the whole Newtown thing. I think Milwaukee avenue will be more like that. It won't be akin to Michigan ave. or State st.

I totally forgot about Lincoln! I would say up it's up there, but I still find most parts of Milwaukee Ave significantly more vibrant than anything Lincoln has to offer, but it definitely is up there, and one I forgot.

But I think Milwaukee has already surpassed Lincoln Ave. For example if you take the stretch of Milwaukee between Division and North Ave, there is nothing that comes to close to that on Lincoln Ave anywhere, in regards to vibrancy, nightlife, and shops and restaurants. Lincoln Ave feels low key, it offers a lot, but much but on a calmer level. The only parts that feel more bustling are Lincoln between Belden and Webster, and Lincoln in Lincoln Lincoln Square, which still don't feel as vibrant as the section of Milwaukee I mentioned. I would say even Milwaukee between California and Kimball is starting to give the most vibrant parts of Lincoln Ave a run for the money.

I don't think it'll be synonymous with Chicago like State and Michigan, because those are tourist destinations whereas Milwaukee is (mostly) where locals go.

I see what you're saying though. Milwaukee from Division to the 606 is pretty much already there. Further north it can be a bit patchy but in 5 years it'll be very different. This map is dated, but gives you a sense of the Milwaukee boom: http://chicago.curbed.com/maps/mappi...velopment-boom

What's cool about the latest Google Maps update is it shows you what the interesting roads are by highlighting them in orange.

I was going to say Lincoln avenue too, but is there any development there though, that's what this thread is also about.
