Unfortunately i have had my first accident yesterday, fortunately both parties didn't have any body injury. It happened on the road in residential community. It was two way traffic with 25 speed limit. A car was driving in front of me and it suddenly moved to the oncoming traffic left lane and stopped. There was no turning signal on so I slowed down just to make sure there's a noticeable distance between me and his car. After he was completely stopped i cautiously slowly started moving thinking he is going to park his car there or just waiting to pickup someone there. As I was passing by and i almost passed him, suddenly out of nowhere he started making the right turn towards the driveway on the right side. As a result he badly scratched and dented my right rear side whereas his front was gone. I even honked while passing but he didn't stop or apply brakes. Afterwards I reported the case to 911 and after listening to both sides, cop gave me failure to reduce speed ticket. The other driver was given failure to maintain lane ticket, he also admitted his fault but made an excuse of making a wide turn to park his car in driveway. I did explain to officer that there was no left signal , the car in front of me came to complete stop on oncoming lane , and it was him who hit his car into me, i even honked for an alert, i was rear ended and not me who rear ended his car, i also slowed down my car. Well, the cop told me that since he wasn't there when the accident happened, he cant testify, he advised me to go to court room and contest the ticket. What is the best way to move forward. Both parties have been ticketed but since its my first accident , how shd i proceed.

Sounds like you should go to court. Take pictures of the scene with you. Sorry I can't help more.

I would be concerned with whether or not the other driver's insurance will cover the damage. Regardless, I think you're going to need a lawyer.

If the insurance companies pay out and there are no issues, go to court , it will be tossed. It will be he said ...she said and the cop can't testify, he didn't see it.

Turn it over to your insurance, let them take care of it. Is cost of a lawyer worth not having the ticket?
