Nice for bicyclists, not no nice for drivers. The only benefit I have working in the suburbs now is that I don't have to deal with idiots on bicycles thinking that they don't have to follow the rules of the road.

Yea because drivers always follow the rules of the road. They always stop at stop signs, use their turn signals, make proper turns, and drive 55 mph or less on the highway (except where the limit is higher).

There are certainly sections of Chicago I wouldn't bike through.

No, but the majority stop at a red and at a minimum slow down for a stop sign. Do you agree with that? I've seen more than one bicyclist blow throw a red (I slammed on my brakes to avoid hitting him) and have yet to see one stop for a stop sign. Many don't even slow down. And I've yet to see a car try to squeeze in between two cars, fall over, hitting one of said cars, only to shrug and then drive away.

Problem is you have to ride the bicycle thru Chicago. Crowds, wind, cold weather, crappy roads, cars, trucks, bad air quality and few natural resources. No thank you. It may be "bike friendly" but there is no way it is the best city for bicycling.

As for lights: a good many of them are demand actuated meaning they will not cycle to green if only a cyclist or even a group of cyclists are there. As a result, even the law now allows them to proceed cautiously through.

As for stop signs: We treat them as yeilds. We ride on residential and secondary streets for long distances sometimes 100+ miles. We simply are not going to stop, shift gears, unclip from the pedals, loose all momentum then start again clip back in regain momentum shift back... every single block. You wouldn't drive on such a route. However, if you prefer we could start riding on the main arterial highways, take an entire lane and snarl traffic for you. But at least we'll be obeying the law.

Why can't you use turn signals, or drive at or under the speed limit?
