Awesome portrayal of Chicago women in general. Lots of the plastic, North Shore and even South Side girls are just like that. Great find!!

It shows that in mannerism at least, we have more in common with the Northeast than the Lower Midwest. This is to be expected because these mannerisms came from the same ethnic groups that settled both areas.

In a lot of the Black areas, some could be carbon copies of each other.

I also think that certain parts of Lincoln Park have a strong resemblance to many parts of NW DC. The tree-lined residential streets and row houses have a similar feel to me.

I have lived in Philly and Kansas City.

Chicago is much more like K.C. Both were designed in the bella arts movement. NE cities have older infrastructure, smaller streets (pre car) and tighter density.

Umm...

Chicago is denser than Philly per city data.

Chicago's streets aren't seriously that wider than Philly's. South Street is on par with Milwaukee avenue. Broad Street is on par with North Avenue except there's no "porking" in a Chicago median. The Schuylkill expressway is near identical to the Kennedy.

I agree Philly feels "tighter" than Chicago, however. Not in terms of people as that is similar but in terms of how the buildings seem smaller and obviously more are fit in a block than anywhere in Chicago.

Few who visit downtown Philly and Chicago. would see street sizes similar. Even Philadelphians would point that out.

Same with neighborhoods. Chicago neighborhoods have by far a standard required set-back of homes from sidewalks and to streets. Parking is almost always on both sides of the streets. Even if one-way. Less so in Philly. Especially North Philly but plenty south too. No housing in Chicago on alley-sized streets, especially those where you park on part of the sidewalk.

-- Average neighborhoods I chose not downtown CC of course.

- North Philly - Examples you won't find in Chicago.

IMO you could substitute "Cleveland" for "Detroit" in the above statement and it would be equally true... if not more so.
Actually if you got Detroit and Toledo together and had a kid, the result would be Cleveland.

People like to think that Chicago and New York have very few structural similarities. But honestly, I think that has been hugely blown out of proportion. Here are pics of Chicago and New York neighborhoods that look almost identical. These aren't trendy, strip mall Americana built up in the 21st century places.

There are about an equal amount of Chicago to New York pictures. If you can figure out which city is which (outside of the obvious ones with the street signs and traffic lights) , you know both cities well.

If you took someone who had never been to either city, blindfolded them and magically transported them to the other within the same day, they most likely wouldn't know they even changed cities.
