It's fairly easy to find free Friday night Sabbath meals at private residences, chabads, or temples. Just go to the websites, look at Facebook groups, etc, for upcoming events.

OP wanted suggestions on how to make money and eat (which I'm guessing "survive" implies) in Chicago without a job lined up, so I gave him a few ideas. There isn't much else to say on the topic.

But as TBideon said, you didn't have to be Jewish to get the free food.
Much like how churches have food pantries that give out free food too, even to outsiders.
Free food from Jews is the same as free food from non-Jews.
