My partner and I need to move to Bridgeport to make our commutes more manageable. We looked at a really nice garden-level apartment on 32nd and May. I don't want to live someplace where it's going to be dangerous for us to hold hands on the street, but I have my heart set on Bridgeport. Honestly, one thing that may work in our favor is that she looks pretty boyish, so I don't think most people will even notice. The owners of the building are totally fine with it, and we're the only renters there, so that's not an issue.

Any opinions on safety in general in Bridgeport? I know it is quickly gentrifying.

Thanks.

that's a gross generalization. the caucasion areas of bridgeport have remained relatively insulated despite more than half a century of decline around them but the neighborhood as a whole is very diverse. i don't know any of the long time residents in the italian side of bridgeport but i don't think their issues are with the ever expanding, hard working asian community so much as it is with the government assisted, unemployed african american community that has degraded the once working-class/middle class white neighborhoods around them. many of the residents trying to preserve the status quo are misguided by lumping all people into a steroetype but they do have history on their side, at least with the decline of neighborhoods in their backyard.
