The metal scene in Chicago
Hey Guys! I am a young musician who primarily plays death metal. I love playing with other musicians who love metal and also enjoy going to see local bands play. How is the metal scene in Chicago? I've heard some great things, with bands like Cinerary and Fleshgrind being from Chicago, but would love to hear some more opinions from others that live in Chicago. I ask because I am considering moving to Chicago, and would love to find other metal musicians to play with, and see local bands! Any info would be awesome! Thanks guys!

There's a metal store on Montrose somewhere between Clark and Damen... That's all I know about that. This city is so big there has to be a scene somewhere.

Death metal scene? Not very big here. Go to Florida or the east coast for a big death metal scene. Sure a few bands around here play death metal, but not like in Florida, thats for sure.

Nice.
I know nothing about death metal around here, but there's gotta be something, right?
I mean, if I can hang out and watch bluegrass in Chicago, you should be able to find death metal.

Not sure on the local metal scene, I just moved here from texas and am itching for a solid local show to quench my thirst however being a big city, any major act touring will probably stop in chicago as they do in houston.
So...Death Metal in Chicago....of course!
Nile - 3/26 - Metro
Napalm Death - 4/5- Pearl Room (Mokena, IL)
Then in what ive dubbed "Metal May"
Testament - 5/3 "Chicago Powerfest" - Pearl Room
Dimmu Borgir & Behemoth - 5/4 - House of Blues
Children of Bodom, Job for a cowboy, in flames, megadeth - 5/6 Aragon Ballroom
Opeth, Between the buried and me -5/13 - Rosemont Theatre
Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility - 5/19 - House of Blues
Suffocation - 7/19 - Pearl Room
See you in the pit! If you make it out here, I can handle vocals both low and high.

Sweet man thanks for the info, i'll let ya know if I make it out that way! Steve-o, i know tampa has long hailed as the death metal capital of the U.S., with bands like Diecide etc etc. But i've heard in recent years that the scene has faded. I lived in Miami for a short while and didn't find a big metal scene at all. Are there any parts of florida in perticular you can recommend for a good metal scene? And you also mentioned the east coast, i know Baltimore has had some great bands like Dying Fetus, but am not sure how that is now. Are there any specific places you can recommend? Thanks all!
