Menards Development in Humboldt Park
Are there any updates on the new Menards being built at Kostner and North?
I have done some research, particularly thru Stone Real Estate's website and talked with the developer.
http://www.stonerealestate.com/prope...rthKostner.pdf
I know that Menards is scheduled to come in late 2008. I am not sure it is going to happen based upon progress I have seen at the site. There are also a number of other projects associated with the 240,000 sq ft new store. Wal-Mart, down the street at Kilpatrick is only 135,000 sq. ft. for comparison. CVS is up and running as is Bank of America across the street. Starbucks will have a location as part of this development. Additionally, there will be another bank built as part of this development. There are a total of 11 outlots in addition that will be made into small retail strip malls and free-standing restaurants and stores. This is a huge development and it will be interesting to see how it shapes the neighborhood in the next few years.
Just north of there they recently got a new Burlington Coat Factory as well as KidsRUs in what used to be Jewel. Personally, I would rather have Jewel. I usually go the either the burbs or city neighborhood with a Jewel or Dominicks for my grocery shopping. I never went to the Grand Food Mart at north and cicero that shut down (formerly Cub Foods), but believe Food 4 Less will be coming in there in the next few months.
Any posters with more information regarding this or other developments in Humboldt Park/Logan Square?

At least from the vantage point of driving down North Ave, I haven't noticed much progress on the construction site.

Updates?
Any updates?
I know CVS and Bank of America are up and running. I also have seen them moving a lot of dirt on the Menards site and several of the outlots? Any news?
Also, what is going in on the corner of North and Pulaski? It appears to be a Banco Popular branch and a 6-10 store strip center. Does anyone know what stores would be going in the strip center?

A good place to check for this is EveryBlock -- go here:
http://chicago.everyblock.com/
...then type in "north and pulaski" and try clicking "Building permits" and/or "Business licenses" on the left. There might also be some news articles, depending on whether this has been covered by the papers (click "News articles" on the left).
Hope this helps,
Adrian

north and pulaski development
I believe it will be a walgreens going in north of the new banco popular at north and pulaski.
I have not gotten involved with the alderman though I may in the future. My next property (where I will live also) will most likely have another alderman. Honestly, had the eviction process taken longer I might have involved the alderman. It is amazing in retrospect I was able to get 3 former CHA families out in only 4 months. I have a good lawyer who specializes in eviction process and he even said these were some of the worst "bottom of the barrel" people he had seen in nearly 30 years of practicing law.
Everyblock may be a good resource as well to look at.

Well this is Walgreens home turf. They have put out of business just about every independent pharmacy in the whole Chicagoland area and then some.

The death of the independent drug store is a huge shame IMO.
My other big pet peeve with Walgreens/CVS is their horrendous land use practices. Fast food chains and banks would probably round out the top 3.

walgreens
I believe they are relocating but I would understand if the old location stayed open.
I just wish we could get a decent grocery store other than aldi or food 4 less. Tony's is pretty good.
Walgreens may have competition as there is a new player in town.
CVS is coming on pretty strong and sells alcohol. I am good buddies with the guy who brought CVS to Chicago and 40 percent of their sales in inner city neighborhoods is liquor, which is putting the squeeze on the corner liquor stores.
