If you think that some of these "Chicago Democrats" are 'leftists' then you've got another thing coming. They are their own breed of politician who are not so much interested in the ideological arguments of liberalism or conservatism as much as they are interested in kickbacks, backroom deals, and personal gain.

Will there be a change in February? Only if the suburban and wealthier areas of Chicago vote in large numbers to offset the south and west side voting blocks who will robotically vote for the Machine since many believe the mantra that essential services will disappear if the tax is rolled back. I do hope I am wrong and that there is more of an independent streak and more informed voters in those blocks than I give credit for.

With extreme leftists, there's two classes.. poor (citizens), and elite (government). Like Cuba and Venezuela... there is no middle class.

So how is that different from the 2 classes you end up with under extreme right wing politics?
And with Republicans, unfortunately, we have become as extremist-if not more-than the way left. If we don't like a plan, we don't try to compromise-we try to block and obstruct. Reagan is a Republican deity but he was a self-proclaimed New Dealer. He would have a drink with Tip O'Neal after arguing policy. It's too much of the same old "My way or the Highway" crap, instead of putting aside the nasty personal smear tactics and getting a compromise worked out. This is not the conservative movement of Buckley and Reagan......this is the hate politics of El Rushbo.
I am the moderate in between the 2 camps and the Republican party is losing me. Bad thing is, Democrats won't get me on board because of all the cr*# I see them pulling in State & local politics.

Same here. The republican party, as a whole, has pretty much turned into a giant Sarah Palin....one big reactionary.

Chicago is a dictatorship, there's no question about that, but if you seriously think it's based on leftist ideologies then you know nothing about Chicago politics and you're obviously parroting Limbaugh or whatever conservative talker you happen to plug your brain into.
