It's just another name for the Chicago metro area.

Well it can be considered Cook,Lake,McHenry,DuPage,Kane,Will and Lake (Indiana) counties for sure. Some people and groups, etc add more counties to the area. It is not really something set in stone. But the counties I listed above are no doubt "Chicagoland."
Some add Porter (Indiana),Kendall,Grundy,Kankakee,DeKalb,and Kenosha(Wisconsin).
Some even add even more.

Not really. Lake County, Indiana borders Chicago and also Illinois state boundary.

Yeah but as great of a city as chicago is one would think they'd wanna keep the name chicago more exclusive then that.

Not to mention, quite a few towns in NW Indiana are closer to Chicago than some of the northwest and southwest suburbs. It isn't really that weird when you think about it. In New York cities in New Jersey are considered part of the metro area because they are close by, and cities in Virginia are part of the DC metro area, so it isn't as uncommon as one might think.

Actually, Lake County, Indiana has more in common with the Southside of Chicago than any other part of Chicago has with any other county.
