Actually though, someone was just shot yesterday over by on Blackhawk and Division, so they are still working some stuff out over here.

60622 (well mostly the eastern part) is ok if you are a guy and not a wuss. My times living there were very colorful to say the least. Not a good place to be for a female for sure.

I was joking with the 60622 post to be quite honest (and I don't know if the joke was understand ... you know how the internet and sarcasm works, not well). I've lived over here for years, as a female, and the only problem I've ever had was a few car break ins back when I had one. But I do agree that there are some sketchy streets over on the east end, but much of the zip code is well, quite nice.

Is it dangerous? Yes.

Will property in this area appreciate greatly in the next 5-10 years? Highly improbable.

Will it be difficult renting out? Probably not-but good luck trying to collect rent,evicting people,and keeping your property undamaged.

Stabilization/gentrification is creeping southward from the university, but there is strong resistance to this trend from current residents. Anything more than a couple blocks south of the university is still fairly rough.

I happened to see a program on TV the other night which told the history of the Blackstone Rangers and mainly the exploits of Jeff Fort. I assume he's still rotting in prison. The guy was hailed as a hero in his day, while all the while was nothing more than a front for a major drug distribution channel with his Brothers of Islam gang. They still have a special day for him in Woodlawn. He is where he belongs that's for sure

Fort was never a hero outside his gang supporters. What special day hails him?
