Working in S Michigan Ave - where to live?
Hi all!
I'm an Irish student, moving to Chicago for the summer months. I'll be working in a pub very close to South Michigan Avenue. Could anyone recommend a good place to stay?
Also, could someone recommend a good Chicago based rental agency as I'm finding the task of searching for accommodation particularly daunting.
Slán agus go raibh míle maith agaibh! (Bye and Thanks!)

In order to answer that question, we'd need to know where on Michigan Ave (which runs for miles).

I'm going to guess Kitty O'Shea's in the Hilton Towers.
Am I right?

"South Michigan Avenue" is about 15km long. Care to be more specific?

Oops, didn't know that! Apologies for the ignorance!
But yes, I've been offered a job in that pub in the Hilton.

No problem- how much do you want to spend? I'd guess as little as possible

True enough!
There's two of us, potentially 3, so I imagine €1000 per month for the accommodation (roughly $1400 I imagine) would be our max!

I think the most limiting part is that you're looking for housing for just the summer... Unfortunately I don't really have time to provide detailed help, but I just wanted to bring that up for other posters who do have more time to give a hand to make sure they take it into consideration when making recommendations and telling you where/how to look.

I'd suggest skimming city of chicago sublets & temporary classifieds - craigslist and The Reader. Maybe you'll get lucky and find some students subletting their apartments for the summer. Most likely it will be Lincoln Park or Rogers Park, the two neighborhoods that host major universities. Rogers Park is a little farther north, but its right on the Red Line, which has a stop just west of the Hilton. Lincoln Park would be closer, but rents will be higher if you happen to find a sublet that fits your timeline.
You aren't restricted to those areas, they're just more likley to have sublets during that timeframe. Because of the Hilton's location, it's pretty easily accessible via public transit from most areas of the city. The Red line transfers with every other line a few stops north of the harrison stop. Bottom line, if may take some legwork, but you should be able to find a few places that can work out. Once you have a few options, we can tell you more about the neighborhood you'd be looking at.

Since you're a student, you may want to look to see if summer housing is available at the University Center (the large multi-university student dorm in the South Loop). You'd probably be able to walk to the Hilton in less time than it would to take an elevator in that building. Here's the website:
