Heading to conference at McCormick Place.
I plan to stay in Chinatown and walk to McCormick Place. There are safety issues in any city. Was just wondering if my plan is a good idea. thanks

I think you'll be fine. Cermak has lots of activity on it these days.

That walk should be fine. I walked on that street from Chinatown toward McCormick place recently and had no issues. It is not a bad area anyway

It's a pretty easy walk. Busy road, but you shouldn't run into any problems.

Default Good grief...

...nothing quite like going to a conference and staying at the worst hotel in the city. Bed bugs, holes in walls, loose electrical fixtures...

There's a brand new hotel in Chinatown, the Jaslin, I doubt it has any of those "features."

It's about a 15 minute walk from McCormick. Should be fine, safety-wise. Chinatown in Chicago is a real, working Chinatown with plenty of street vibrancy, although between Wentworth and Michigan there really isn't much going on on Cermak. But it should be safe.

The disadvantages that come from lack of affiliation with standard hotel networks are not just exclusion from their sources for business travel bookings, but it forces the operator into a kind of scary tier. The travelers that are hoodwinked into believing it is a bargain end up finding out the hard way that the operator is unable to get staff to maintain the property to even basic levels of sanitation...

I would also caution anyone trying to walk to McCormick Place that current construction projects and long term hostility toward pedestrians in the overall layout of the complex mean what looks like a short walk online may
require considerably more time than one would expect. The whole area is set-up for cars / taxis and with construction vehicles making their passage more difficult pedestrians get pushed even lower in priority. The complex is walled off from the lake in even nice weather, in poor weather the oppressiveness is far worse...

It's fine. Chinatown is a great place to stick around for a bit. It's a really unique neighborhood--if you've a bit of spare time, try taking the water taxi from the Chinatown stop to the Loop for some sightseeing.
