New job in Northbrook, baby on the way where to live? (Evanston: to rent, buying)

Hi all,

I recently scored a new job that pays 60k and my girlfriend who is expecting makes 35k. We are both in our mid 20's and the only debt I have is a car I recently purchased for 20k. I know its probably a good idea to rent first and see what suits us. I'd love to be in the city but I don't mind the suburbs since I've lived in them my whole life. I was always drawn to evanston, rogers park for the close proximity to the beach mostly and some good walkable areas. I have a music studio in Logan Square I'd still like to use although I understand I may not have that much longer to use with a child coming in. I live in Des Plaines but I'd like to try new areas where its conveniently close to expressway for me to get around and easy parking. Its a lot that I asked. What are some areas you would recommend in general for a mid 20's couple expecting a child in 7 months?

You should not have a problem renting or buying in either a part of the city that is commuting distance from Northbrook or the suburbs adjacent. Maybe focus close to Edens -- Mayfair, Edgebrook, Jefferson Park in the city and Niles, Skokie, Lincolnwood. Much more affordable than Evanston, easier commute to work, still very quick drive into Logan Sq...
