Hi,
I am planning to move to Chicago with my family, i would be working for a company whose office is in Downtown Chicago.
I would really appreciate if I can get some moving advise, I am looking for a 1-2 BHK apartment which is close to work and safe to live with a family within affordable price(~$1500 per month).
Also if someone can advise if it would be better to stay in City or move to suburbs? also which suburb would be the best to live with family and close to office.
thanks so much in advance for all your inputs. thanks!!

Look for Apts in South Loop and nearby, up to Bridgeport. If you want the suburbs look for areas close to the Metra Line. Like I took the Metra Belmont stop in Downer's Grove to Downtown and it took me 35 minutes. But I think the monthly pass is $130 ???

Look up Apts in Craigslist and Google Earth them.

I believe it would be better if you have children to live in the suburbs. Your rental price is really not at all very high for a family you will be hard pressed to find something really nice for that price with multiple bedrooms. You don't say how many children you have. I would skip Lincoln Park, its one of the highest priced places to live. So I think we need a little more information on whether you really do have children. Family could mean anything...it could mean one adult with two older parents or whatever. Unless you have your heart set on living in the city I would skip it and look to the suburbs. Look for places along the train lines. Get a map of metra so you get the lay of the land.
