GoCubs,
I admire what you and DH were able to do and am looking to do something similar, though this current real estate market makes it tough. Still, if I continue to save up down payments and buy properties while living below my means I see good things happening. My long-term goal is to get nice car when I am 40 (though I am really tempted by the new 5 series from bmw coming out in 2010). I am 30 now and drive a perfectly adequate Lincoln LS. Maybe I will splurge, maybe not. It should be noted that I pay cash for cars. I don't believe in car loans. I only finance appreciating assets.
When I am 50 I would like to have a nice house in River Forest and be married with kids approaching junior high and high school age. That is the plan for now. Of course this plan is constantly updated.

is anyone...
Is anyone a Yuppie and brave enough to come out of the closet?? i mean i would like to be a yuppie (lots of money;gourmet food; living in the bustling city wouldn't you like it!?!? )
However i have decided if im gonna be a yuppie i better still keep it real. I have decided that i will not go to a jazz club if im not into jazz just to "fit in" as a yuppie, or eat filet mignon even when i dont know what that is and never had it(which are both true) i think thats what pisses people off about yuppies; they act stuck up too much; but thats what im gonna strive not to be.
i think if im going to be a yuppie i'll be the black sheep yuppie.
I grew up on the WestCoast and in the South, so i do have a southern accent(sort of) so no hiding that; o yea one more thing; i love southern rap; i just do (dont judge ME!!!) and so if you see a guy blaring hip hop from a huge sound system in his car driving away from starbucks/panera bread/ in a few years(i live in houston and Chicago is where i wanna be) then you know its me
im just ranting but please free to rant for yourself also
what ticks you off about yuppies??

It's official: I am a yuppie. I am young, live in the city, have a professional job, make good money and like pretty shiny things.
Please don't hate me city-data-ians. :P

I am a yuppie. No shame at all. Believe me, hypocrites come in all sorts of packaging. I try not to be one -- not sure to what extent I succeed. Mostly though I just happen to like the things that yuppies do. I do like contrast, though, and need to balance out my inherent yupiness pretty frequently to avoid becoming sick of myself, and I like hanging out with people who are different from me.

Ditto. I can safely say my SO is not a yuppie (though he does love our Crate and Barrel chaise, so perhaps after 5 years I have begun to convert him?!?! LOL!)
