I have been offered two options in my job. To stay in my current position but move to San Diego, or take a different role and move to Chicago. I am from the midwest, and love Chicago. I would be working downtown, and would definitely want to live near the lake, so I can enjoy the beach and ability to run along the lake.

San Diego has great weather, and I would live near the beach but would be concerned about my car getting broken into. I travel a great deal and am gone a month at a time. The cost of living is high as well.

Does anyone have any advice? What areas of either city that would be ideal for a 38 year old single guy? I don't want to spend a fortune on rent either. Ideally 1200 in Chicago up to 1400 in San Diego.

I thought you were moving to Chicago for sure?

"Moving for work in the city, where to live? "----Let this thread get a few more responses. Plus there are tons of threads that have been made in the past that you can research. We have already covered some places that you my like in Chicago.

If you want info on San Diego ask the San Diego board. It only makes sense.

These compare threads have been done numerous times. Why rehash it again? The only way you will get an honest comparision is from someone that has lived in both.

I live in Chicago and love this city!! But given a job with a salary that accounts for standard of living in both cities.....? No contest, San Diego! Access to Beach, two hours from desert and hiking, Mexico, weather... But then again, it would have to be an equivalent standard of living...San Diego is expensive...
