Howard, Jarvis, and Morse in particular. Looking at apartments al around the city and this is an area of interest.

Stay away from Howard. I'm not familiar with Jarvis. I've heard Morse is ok, but I'd probably want to stay as close to the lake as possible.

I live in Rogers Park. Loyola and Morse are fine. Sometimes I get off at Morse just to avoid the college crowd at Loyola or if I'm going to the Fresh Market or JB Alberto's. Jarvis is fine as well. Howard is rougher. I shop at the Jewel on Howard. There's usually some homeless or mental ill people hanging around the transit station. However, I never felt immediate danger being around there.

I agree with thefallensrvnge. Rogers Park is roughest around Howard (although not a war zone) and safest around Loyola, with in-between areas being a gradient. Reason being the spillover of crime from Juneway, a rough neighborhood right on the Evanston border. I read that Juneway is pretty much the only truly dangerous part of Rogers Park.

I'd recommend Loyola, and not just for safety reasons. The beaches there are nicer, there's bus 155 to get to West Ridge and its Indian and Israeli restaurants, the area looks more urban, and there are more people on the Red Line, which makes for safer riding at night. I'm not familiar with the nightlife in the area, but there should be at least bars.

They're rough by north side standards, but they aren't actually all that rough. They're also improving drastically by the day it seems. I've noticed larger numbers of young, single women recently.

There are incidents from time to time (I can't think of anything major), but I've personally never felt as though I was in any danger in the areas around the red line stops.
