When I walk by a group of tourists I always pull out my phone and pretend to loudly talk about stocks. Then I imagine how whatever conversation they had been having ("hey ma, look at them sculptins in the stone!") immediately shift to "See that person! He is important. Don't stare Jimmy."

Thats funny. I usually pull out the cellphone and pretend to chat when I come upon those Streetwise vendors or panhandlers near the Oglesby Transportion Center. They NEVER bother me when Im on the phone. Try it sometime, it works!

Nah, no need to feel stupid! Most Chicagoans love Big John, the Wrigley Building, etc. These are certainly worthy of photos! But if you take a picture of the inside of the Water Tower Mall or a generic Victoria's Secret store you could also find in suburban Omaha, then I can't help you.

Careful with photos in Chicago, last year I was stoped by police in front of Navipier in downtown Chicago and asked a lot of questions, why am I taking pictures (in a public place!!!). Know your rights and be ready to stand up for them.
