In the process of looking for apartments, still, and I'm looking for a place in the city where rent is affordable, and where a lot of creatives live. (Musicians, Artists, Painters, Writers, ETC.) Thanks in Advance!

There are all kinds of different categories of "Musicians, Artists, Writers, Painters" -- for those who are successful or have an affluent partner who does not object to supporting them, costly neighborhoods like the Gold Coast, River North, Lincoln Park, Hyde Park are great options. For folks who fit more into the "starving artist" category there are places like Pullman or even way down on the south east side where they choose to live. Pockets of Uptown, Andersonville / Bowmanville and Edgewater are also pretty good options. The various spots in Pilsen that have not been over priced are good too. Fringes of Tri-Taylor, Bronzeville, Bridgeport, even Little Village have some of the edginess that certain artists are looking for.

Fact is between kids that get all the good connections from Northwestern or The School of Art Institute, to some pretty solid programs at DePaul to scrappier efforts at Colombia College, UIC, or other schools there are TONS of arts degrees handed out. Makes it easy for Starbucks to stay fully staffed with desperate kids...

Fewer artists and more upper-incomes in one and three now. Few artists can afford to live in Logan Square anymore beyond Profartists (artists with a main high-paying gig, like a lawyer guitarist). Pilsen is starting to get that way too now.

For true young or exclusive artists who live and die by the creative process, Humboldt Park, yes, though that too is starting to get expensive, at least in the more desirable eastern parts. Little Village has been quietly getting them. Some are in Bridgeport.

"Bohemia has no banner it survives by discretion" -Tennessee Williams.

Real artists don't congregate in places with lots of poseurs and wannabe's. It makes them nauseous.

Yep, this is true. And of course it doesn't work the other way around. The bourgeois loves artists due to their high cool factor. That's how gentrification happens! The irony is very bitter.

One artist I know bought a single family home near Lakeview High School about 20 years ago for a pittance. Another artist friend lives in Avondale, another friend lives in Irving Park.
