My husband and I are moving to Chicago within the next couple months and are totally clueless about the city - neither of us have ever even visited Chicago before. We need info about which neighborhoods to look for an apartment in. We will not have a car, and we'd like to be as close to downtown as possible. We are in our late 20's and have never lived in a city before. We need a 2 bedroom for less than $1500/month. Please please please give us all the info you possibly can!!! Thank you!

Most new transplants to the city like Lincoln Park because of its easy access to the loop and vibrancy of the neighborhood with lots of restaurants, bars and other amenities, but $1500 doesn't go very far for 2 bedrooms. There are plenty of options, but you'll find they have older kitchens and baths.
Also look at Lakeview and Wicker Park/Bucktown, which are both very nice and where $1500 will usually get you a bit more. For more info on any of these neighborhoods use the search on this forum. |

Hello Help,
The best advice I can offer is to go to the search box and type in "Moving to Chicago". You'll find 28 threads on the subject alone. I know every question you want answered is in one of the threads. Many of them have dozens of responses! But to save time, Check out these 2 sites for housing: chicago.craigslist.org chicagoreader.com Best wishes and Welcome! Definitly search the threads. The following neighborhoods: Roscoe Village, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Wicker Park are good for your age; however, finding a two bedroom in LP is hard for that price. Also search for apartment finding services on this forum (they are free). They can help you find what you are looking for.
