Default St. Patrick Day Do's and Don'ts for a newbie

Hey, I'm new in Chicago and trying to figure out what would be a good plan for St. Patricks Day this Saturday....

If you must go out drinking, avoid, like the plague, any 'Irish' bars, they will be crowded, and full of idiots.

Personally, I usually stay in, go someplace that actively does not celebrate St Patrick's day or acknowledge it in any way. Last year I went to a bar in my neighborhood that had a sign on the door 'we have no St Patrick's day drink specials, don't ask' with a friend, and there were exactly 10 people there (and I knew most of them).

Perhaps the OP wants a crowded bar to celebrate the holiday! So cynical you are!

Yeah, I suppose, I guess I'm showing my age.

In that case, go to Cork and Kerry. 10614 S. Western Ave, and don't wear a Cubs hat (unless you like abuse)

Look for some concerts. There are bound to be some celtic bands in town, there always are on that weekend before St. Pats.

Same here. St. Patrick's Day is the holiday which I despise the most (except for the wonderful Shamrock shakes at McDonald's).
