Hi, I just bought a car, its Temporary registration is valid till October 8th,2017. I'm wondering if I need to get Chicago Window City Sticker right away or I need to wait until I get my permanent registration plates?

If the answer is yes, how do I update/change the sticker after I get permanent plates?

I have a parking in a private lot however, might be parking on city streets when running errands.

Thanks for your time and help with this.

I know you get a 30 day grace period before the late fee kicks in. I am not sure though if that's based on the date of purchase or the date of registration. I will note that when you register a new vehicle they require you to provide a proof of purchase date for that vehicle, so I suspect they are specifically looking for the purchase date to decide if you're past the grace period.

You should be able to get a temporary visitor pass from your alderman's office. Then get the city sticker once you have your permanent tags.

Thanks everyone, yeah I figured the 30 days grace period starts with the purchase date so its better to get city sticker right away. I was also told I can change the sticker after I get permanent plates by visiting clerk office but its not necessary as long as it's the same car.
