If a business wants to display a sign, Chicago requires that they purchase a permit and pay a professional contractor from the city to apply the lettering or images. If the business owner puts up their own sign, they face fines of $350 to $15,000 per day until the signs are removed.

STUPID people are in charge of Chicago[?]. Maybe they're the type of "It's who you know than what you know that counts type..." Sometimes you do need to know "People Politics" and "How to Connect," but only having empty heads who are good at getting into Political Power, - this totally sucks...Sign Law is totally stupid, as it slows down business. I think it was made to prevent street clutter. To make the Sign Law more efficient, it should be such that a Permit can be bought and discussed instantaneously online, without a trip to the physical City Office. Then the business can print the Permit or show it to an Inspector from online. But no Professional Contractor for the sign should be needed [I guess politics made this "law."]

City requires a permit for a sign? That's ridiculous. My guess is that they want permit fee (money) for everything to help postponing the inevitable budget crisis. Yeah they haven't taxed us enough for that (I'm being sarcastic).
