I was spending a night downtown at a hotel last year and the cheapest and most convinient parking was the Navy Pier lot.
30 bucks for 24hrs. compared to 30 for a couple hours in most places

Navy Pier is ok, although nothing spectacular. I visited in winter and remember something like a botanical garden which was nice to see. Nothing much else to do there in winter. Being one of Chicago's three tourist destinations along the skyscrapers and the Magnificent Mile, if you have some time left in Chicago after seeing those it is a good tourist destination. The park nearby is nice for walking too.

Not ALL of us. It's a tourist trap in my opinion.

It seems there's a lot of non-tourists on this board who don't love going there. There's a couple good aspects about the place (in my opinion, only worth doing every 5 to 10 years), but there's so many more interesting things in Chicago.

If for nothing else, it's a great place to take a walk, people watch, sit, relax and take in the lake/city views. You can then exit stage left without spending a dime...

I've been once, in all my visits to Chicago. It's meant to be a family-friendly attraction, and not necessarily something resembling high culture. Kids will enjoy it, and that might be enough..
