Well, then again, I guess half the country did vote for Trump.

I guess I probably have some bias due to the circles in been in my entire life.
I choose to remain uninformed. I don't watch the news, TV, nor use social media. I am too concerned with my own life than a bunch of **** I can't control.

I do all three, but I can't help but feel you're not missing very much. Most TV is lame, most of what people post on social media is lame, and the news is mostly just a daily list of crimes, disasters, and political shenanigans.

On the other hand... Even though I choose not to worry about things I can't control, I do like to stay as informed as possible. Although sometimes it seems like ferreting out the real truth about current events is a full-time job.

This weekend, some of my friends were in town for the Bears game. Btw, they all have degrees/Masters from Big 10 schools, beautiful homes/families, are successful in business, etc. Since they had nothing planned on Saturday, I suggested we go see my musician friend perform, or go to an art exhibit in Hyde Park, or this independent film about a woman I know, or take a historical bldg. walk, etc...

They did not want to do any of that. They only wanted to eat at a trendy, crowded restaurant, shop (including Vineyard Vines store - lol) and then hang out in the hotel bar and drink all night, then go to the Bears game and go home. These are really nice people, intelligent in their particular fields, but they do the same stuff every time they visit. They only come to eat, drink, shop, or go to a professional sporting event. They don't seem to want to try something new or expand cultural awareness. This seems like "Chad/Trixie" behavior to me.

The Chad I know has an MBA from Kellogg. Hardly stupid. But, to him, education is strictly a means to an end. Couldn't care less about Ukraine or global warming or really anything outside of sports, work and family/friends.
This is absolutely true.

I never really viewed the "Chad" crowd as stupid...just generally uninterested in the world outside of their immediate lives. Life exists in a sort of vacuum, so this justifies only looking out for number one. No sense of causality.

How is this strange?

This seems like typical behavior to me. Most people I know and have known wouldn't want to do any of that. Hell forget Big 10 universities, I would wager most native Chicagoans would be in the same boat as the Big 10 crowd you listed.

That is PRECISELY Chad/Trixie behavior. Generally shallow and materialistic, with little to no interest in cultural or intellectual pursuits.

I feel sorry for them. It's not typical behavior among most urban dwellers I know. It is common among people who live in the suburbs, or if they do live in the city they live in the most suburb-like places possible, culturally speaking (Lincoln Park, River North, etc.).

It's true that intellectual curiosity is not exactly the same thing as intelligence, but you can't say they have "nothing to do" with each other. They are pretty strongly related. Curiosity is what drives people to learn about the world around them, which is a big part of how intelligence develops, though there are of course other genetic and environmental factors involved.
