Dorchester, I visited because it’s home to some of the best Vietnamese and West Indian food in the city.
Roxbury and Dorchester are not dangerous? Really? Then I guess neither is Englewood or Austin, which are just challenging for the adventurous after dark.

I guess my point is to stop being so judgy. Living within certain borders doesn't make one more of a Chicagoan, and living outside of those borders doesn't make one less of a Chicagoan either.
I kind of like North Park. I think it's a rather underrated neighborhood. The physical landscape feels somewhat suburban, if you want that, yet there's still a lot of diversity. And there's a nice river walk nearby.

Thanks for posting this. North Park is quite diverse, but doesn't get as much attention in part because of lack of access to the EL.

The part near North Park University is close to the Kimball stop of the brown line. But yeah if you're more north of that, then no other El stops really.

North Park has that beautiful North Park Nature Center!!! In summer, you can stand in the middle of the park, and with the trees grown out you can't see traffic on the streets. If planes are not going overhead, one would think you were in the country, and not the 3rd largest CITY in the United States!
