I don't at all disagree with that. All I was saying is that the "neighborhood" of Cabrini-Green ends when you leave the projects.
Also, why the heck did you start this thread up again?

I haven't read this entire thread but has anyone else noticed that every Chicago neighborhood map is different? Every site that gives you a map seems to have the same boundaries for a lot of neighborhoods but then some are way off. Some neighborhoods you can't even find on a neighborhood map just looking for an official map to have some basis.

I use the official map often when stating neighborhood boundaries and names to back up arguments.

It's not "official" just because the city makes a map of it. The city has no part in naming neighborhoods, they don't correspond to census tracts, alermanic wards, ZIP codes, city services, etc. In fact, the city basically borrowed their "official" map from a private company that made and sold its own neighborhood map in 2001. Exactly how "official" is that? Meanwhile, that same company issued an updated map in 2006 but the city still uses the 2001 map.

It also seems no matter what city you are in the neighborhoods change boundaries, IE Lincoln Park it's amazing how many people say they live in LP and don't. Slowly but surely borders seem to get bigger and bigger as more try to claim a certain area. This happens a lot with gentrified neighborhoods, people want to be a part of the new fad or area and businesses try to capitalize on the popularity of neighborhoods they are close to.

I simply make a distinction between neighborhoods based on physical characteristics (parks, the lakefront, etc) and ones created by realtors.
The golden rule IMO is if it has a compass coordinate attached to it, someone is trying to fleece you.

What about River North or the West Loop?
I'm just joshing ya, I know there is no such thing as West Bucktown or West Roscoe Village.
