ha, OK, I stand corrected on River north. the West Loop for the most part superimposed itself on existing neighborhoods (although some are admittedly a bit out of date - not a lot of Greeks in Greektown).

and don't get me started on West Roscoe Village...

I don't know, I'd say that River North, South Loop and West Loop are pretty legit, even if the latter two are recent developer-created names. Those "developer-created" neighborhoods have undergone such a thorough transformation and have substantially lived up to the promises the developers made about them, so I have no problem referring to them by their developer-given names. Also, West Loop didn't completely supplant Greektown -- the Greek-façade portion of it is still referred to as Greektown.
