Official Chicago Neighborhood Thread
Drover messaged me with a good idea--since a lot of the posts/threads are in relation to specific neighborhoods, why not sticky a thread where some of the locals can post their impressions of a specific neighborhood? This will hopefully cut down on some of the repeat threads. For example--someone could take up "Rogers Park" and discuss the neighborhood--the good, the bad, maybe the makeup, maybe even fun things to do there. And maybe, just maybe, we can see less of the same old threads.
Here's a pretty good list of neighborhoods, fire away! And don't hesitate to add others that aren't on the list.
Gold Coast
River North
Near North
South Loop
West Loop
West Town/Ukranian Village
Wicker Park/Bucktown
Logan Square
Lakeview
--boys Town, Wrigleyville could be separate

I like this idea, but here's how i would like to see it formatted in that first post
Neighborhood: [Hyperlink to Review] [Star Rating System by Reviewer]
Example:
Gold Coast: Review |***--|

Well, whatever the case is, this doesn't seem to be working so I'll kill it for now. I just hope new posters use the search function more often, there is a wealth of information on this board now and 90% of questions have probably already been answered.

I think it would also be helpful to post maps of the neighborhood locations as well as some photos. Maybe include attractions, restaurants, areas to avoid, crime, average rent, average home prices, etc, etc.

Can this idea be resurrected? I volunteer to take on a few neighborhoods and or communities depending on what will be decided.
However,I think it would be better to divide by community since there are 77 community areas in Chicago and over 200 neighborhoods in Chicago. (Although some neighborhoods of course are in more than one community.) Each community can be subdivided into neighborhoods within its respective thread.
If the board can be cleared of many old threads I think we can get this more streamlined and working better for everyone.
Maybe someone can volunteer to create a new resident thread to Chicago providing links and a brief description of what the links are for...like utilites, public transportation, city services,etc...
Based on the Official Community map-Compacted better: Chicago communities -- chicagotribune.com
Official Chicago Neighborhood Map(It has a few minor problems but is WAY more accurate than any map a realtor will provide.)

Btw the map that via chicago posted above is very inaccurate. No offense.:-) What in the name of god is "Polish Village????!"

Ill try and do my part.
I live in edgewater. Its pretty much a working class nieghborhood with some young folks mixed in. Its got a nice feel to it, ya feel like ya are living with actuall chicagoans as compared to lincoln park where almost everyone is a transplant. Even though its not downtown it gives you that feeling that ya are part of downtown.

Can anyone show me a map showing the different neighborhoods?
Hey guys, love the site, and i've come across alot of helpful stuff. However, i'm looking to move to the north side (lincoln park or wicker park) soon, except, i have no idea where one ends and the other begins? Can anyone make a map, that is color coded or shows the barriers clearly? so i know what street seperates what?
Sorry im not good yet with street names so hopefully the mamp can show it better. Also, i'm strait, and even though i have no problem with the gay community, i would want to avoid mistakingly purchasing an apartment there...could anyone point out where that is as well? Thanks so much!
