Don't want to sound like an idiot here, but...
is there any good websites , newspaper or agencies that could lead me to find a decent one bedroom apartment or efficiency less than $1000 in Bridgeport & Chinatown area? I've heard the Chinese community in Chinatown is closely knit and real estate (even rentals) are rarely posted and usually spread by word-of-mouth.... I'm an Asian fresh-grad working downtown & suburbs so I'll need a car, and Bridgeport seems like a good area to start with... |

Hi,
I just got back from looking for a place in Bridgeport and there is a circular called the Bridgeport News which is available online: BRIDGEPORT NEWS . I also used craigslist, which was pretty helpful but double check the address before getting excited about a place - sometimes people advertise that a place is in Bridgeport but really it's in some place that has a bad reputation. |

You might also try the Chicago Reader Spacefinder and pick "Bridgeport" from the dropdown. Chicago Reader listings tend to be a lot more reliable about the apartment actually being in the neighborhood the ad claims than Craigslist listings. BTW, if $1000 is your budget, you won't have to settle for a studio. You should be able to find a spacious 1-bedroom and maybe even a 2-bedroom in that price range. The closer to Cermack (aka 22nd Street) the better, but pretty much anything north of 29th Street and east of Wallace will see to it that you're not the only Chinese guy on the block; and it's still not uncommon to see Chinese signage down to 31st Street.

I didn't notice that you said $1000 - I got a three bedroom in Bridgeport for $900! You really can get some nice places there. I saw some places that were three bedroom in the $700s.
