For those who are interested, I have not actually cancelled my appointment. I'll be flying out to Chi shortly. (Man is it cold there compared to here; shouldn't have donated all my winter stuff after moving away from there last year.)

Anywho, I will post an update by this Saturday afternoon.

Go to the McLaren website and educate yourself on the options. Do a build based on the model you would find you could conceivably drive; not the 720, obviously. You should at least be able to discuss the different series. My choice was a bespoke 570GT decked out like my 1966 Mustang with Alcantara interior and Volcano Orange paint and all the carbon fiber they can provide. and they won't even tell me the price until I have been through a credit check and visited the showroom. There is a dealer in Atlanta, you know? To discover pricing, check eBay.

$399 for 5 laps. Like you said, not practical. Also, if bright orange or yellow is all they have I'm not interested
Sorry, Gender is not generally specified and so I don't always notice. No offense intended.

That $400 will go fast in five laps, that will be about ten minutes driving time. If I were going for this, I'd take the four hours instead - unless the point is the speed!

But!!! For about the same cost you could go this route. SKY COMBAT!

That looks adventurous and all but I'll pass.

Took a helicopter ride over Kauai last summer and the thing didn't have any doors on it. Thought I was brave enough but literally was paralyzed the first quarter of the flight. Still have nightmares imagining myself fallin outtta that thing.

If your not in a position to buy and don't have the means to buy why waste a salesmans time, plus they probably dont' just let you walk in and say I wanna go for a test drive.

There are exotic car rental places, probably looking at $900 to $1200 for the day where you can rent one and drive it around. There's also groupon experiences where for a couple hundred you can go do a few laps at a local racetrack.

A salesman at an exotic dealership will usually humor an aspirational visitor for a little while as a goodwill gesture. You never know who might come into some money down the line or whether they have a wealthy friend who needs a recommendation on which dealer to go to. But the OP sure ain't gettin' no test drive.

Has anyone here actually test driven a McLaren?

Maybe they are meaner in Chicago, but I've been to several dealers of exotics where they'd let you drive a used one no issue here in the Dallas area. Well, they'd let me, and I'm a chick who wanders around in t shirts.

And I mean 2-3 years used.

Ferraris, Aston Martin, McLaren, etc.

Also many high end new Porsches and Jags.

Actually gonna go look at that new AMG GT while my car is serviced today at Mercedes.

But if you really wanna have a good time driving an exotic car, just pay the $1000 and have 1 for an entire 24 hours.

Btw, good luck getting out of that car if you're not tall.

They will most likely run a background/credit check first, in which case they will turn you away. They don't just let any Joe Schmoe drive a new 720S just because they feel like it. Don't be crushed when your hopes and dreams of driving one are.

On a side note, there are places that allow you to drive exotic cars (for a few hundred dollars) around a track, etc. Give those a whirl.

No, but I have built a 570S Spider online at mclaren.com. Exterior McLaren Orange, Interior Almond White, all the carbon fiber they have for interior and exterior trim. I call it the Dreamsicle. I printed the spec for my lottery dream book.
"And that's as close as I will get"
