How is the Lincoln Park area for crime, etc? My wife and I may be moving there relatively soon and would like to be closer to downtown if possible. I've been to lincoln park a few times years back and enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if it's a safe place, Also, we have 2 young kids. Thanks for the help!!!

LP is lovely and relatively safe. But it's full of a lot of college students and young 20-somethings. It's also tres expensive. I love the neighborhood and spent a lot of time there when I lived in Chicago (lived in Lakeview).

Good luck to you and your family. I'm not sure I would live there with children, but I know people who do and love it.

My friends live in LP and really like it. I have been in and around the area for sometime now. The area is expensive but some deals can be found. Lots of college kids, rich older people, and many younger city families call it home. I was surprised to see many parents walking their kids out and about on nice days. Area is pretty safe i would say and getting better all the time. Friends have a 3 bedroom for 2K a month which could be worse.

Main question with kids in the city is schools. If money's no problem, there are plenty of private schools around there, but if public schools, you can't just drop onto any block in Chicago and be assured of a safe and functional public school, unfortunately. In Lincoln Park there definitely are some public schools that most would find acceptable, but the point is you have to do your homework in advance to know what you're getting into and make sure you're moving into the school district you intend to. Search the forum for more.

I feel safe in Lincoln Park.
