Does anyone else think they've seen more graffiti than in the past? I live on the northside and I'm seeing it everywhere from Old Town up to Irving park and especially when on the L heading downtown.
It's mostly non-discernable gibberish. Did Daley quit funding the "Graffiti Blasters" group?

Why don't they take criminals out and have then clean up this mess instead of paying someone from the city $30/hour to do it?

The interesting thing is that after living here nearly 20 years, I've never actually seen someone spraying graffiti.

I haven't noticed an uptick, personally. To be honest, I don't see a whole lot of graffiti, generally. I pretty much see none in my neighborhood (Lincoln Square), and between here and the Loop of the el, I see some, but it tends to be in out-of-the way places like roofs. Seems like it's pretty tough to find a spot to tag that doesn't get painted over fairly quickly.

I've seen some gang graffiti east of here, though. Not all the way to Uptown, either. Ravenswood. Mostly Latin Kings.

There does not seem to be anymore than there usually is. In fact there is way less now than there was in the past couple decades in most areas.

I've noticed a bit more on the backs of buildings along the Blue Line through Bucktown and Logan Square. I think part of it is that some people have given up trying to paint over it every week and have just resigned themselves to the fact that the back of their building is going to be tagged. Otherwise I'm not seeing any more or less of it in other conspicuous areas.

Yeah, all of the backs of the buildings facing the Blue line used to be covered along Milwaukee until the mid-late 90's. It is much better now than it once was. But I would agree on a minor resurgence at least in comparision to the last 5 years or so thus far this year.

There surely must be a connection with the apparent resurgence of wanton shootings in the city the last 6 months or so.

Last summer I noticed Latin King graffiti on a couple of office buildings in the vicinity of Clark and Wacker. Fortunately it was removed in a couple of days.

Graffiti just pisses me off. It shows a total disrespect for society, other peoples' property, the neighborhood, etc.

These little gang punks who think it's cool to tag a building need to be held accountable and not get a slap on the wrist.

I propose 100 hours of community service cleaning off graffiti for anyone caught tagging.

People get DUIs and don't do that much community service... there are a lot of crimes that don't have harsh enough punishment.
