Default Is Bridgeport safe?

Is Bridgeport safe? Moving from Lakeview and looking to buy near 31st (East of Halsted). Everyone thinks I'm crazy but it's a brand new condo unit for a great price. The research I've done indicates that there is more crime in Lakeview than in Bridgeport. The neighborhood seems friendly but I'm not sure If I'm being too naive. Like I said -- all of my friends like I'm nuts. Thoughts?

Bridgeport is fine. I grew up there, it's family driven and nothing like lakeview.
But, leave the cubs hat up there.

Actually a sox fan so it's perfect! I appreciate the feedback -- It's a little scarry making the move considering the two neighborhoods (Lakeview and Bridgeport) couldn't be more different. Again, thanks!

They're different. But there are plenty of neighborhoods that would better fit the profile of 'couldn't be more different.' There's just not as many bars and not as many Iowans.

I should clarify that when I say the neighborhoods "couldn't be more different" it's from the perspective of a 26 year old. From what I could tell during my visits, Bridgeport doesn't have as many bars/coffee shops/hangouts as Lakeview -- it's just a different crowd. I work downtown so would take the Red Line to and from work everyday.... I gather even that will be much different than my brown line commute. I hear there are shady characters who hang out at the 35th station. Luckily, there's an entrance and exit at 33rd that I'd use. I know nothing about Bridgeport other than what I hear... and that is, it's considered part of the "Southside" and thus, not the safest/friendliest/wisest/or typical place for a 26 year old to live. Nevertheless, I am seriously considering it. I welcome all comments about Bridgeport... good and bad!

Ask Patrick Daley....He still lives on Lowe, awaiting sentencing per his upcoming racketeering trial. I say if its good enough for patrick, its good enough for anybody!
