Default Working in Glencoe - 4 days help?

Moving from the UP of Michigan-just landed job in Glencoe & have to find a place this weeken!! Any affordable place to move to with easy commute or a train commute? I can afford about $700/month.

I have a friend that lives in Forest Park, but that is a hike. Any suburbs close by Glencoe -- similiar to Forest Park, affordable & fun??

You would have a very difficult time finding somewhere to live for that price in the burbs that provide for an easy commute to Glencoe. Look in the city near the Metra stops of Rogers Park and Ravenswood (look in Uptown,Edgewater,North Center and Lake View in the city.) I do not recommend living in Rogers Park.

Here's an apartment in Highland Park for $750:

Fantastic 1 Bed in Highland Park Avail May 1st(725 St. Johns) (broken link)

Depending on how you define "fun" this may be more or less fun than Evanston. The vibe in Evanston is funky, urban, lots of restaurants and bars. This apartment is near Ravinia, which has a VERY SMALL business district, but is near the concert venue ($10 for lawn seats?), the beach, and lots of woodsy surroundings.

Good luck.

Check out the rest of craigslist if you haven't already. There are lots of listings.

Forest Park is unique. It has always been home to A LOT of youth oriented bars -- restrictive zoning in OP has more than a little to do with that. The affordability factor is probably due to the school district situation. Anyhow, that's back story and probably something you don't care about.

Evanston is generally QUITE a bit more expansive than Forest Park, and the bars scene is not the same at all -- dominated by a whole different crowd. If I were you I might concentrate on having a more pleasant commute -- the Edens is under construction which will make it and all alternatives a NIGHTMARE...

Depending on where in Glencoe you'll be working you might be better off looking WEST to Wheeling and/or Buffalo Grove -- lots of rental properties in that region. Of course you are going to give up some of the tremendous Forest Park taverns, but maybe you'd be safer just crashing at your buddy's for the weekend. The boss will appreciate your insobriety
