Would this be a great place for a 25 year old female with 3 kids?

need a lot more info (ages of kids, your comfort level with the city, etc), but I'll go out on a limb and say that 99% of the people here will strongly advise you go with the address on 1449 N. Thomas, as it's much further east and likely safer on the street.

The first apartment is in Humboldt Park, the western area of Humboldt Park. The side east of the park is better. The Western side is rife with gang violence and narcotics.

The one you just listed is basically downtown, pretty much Oldtown. Nice area, a few blocks south is iffy, but in general the entire area is good.

Cabrini Green is there (between Larrabee and Halstead). While they're razing most of the high-rise projects, it still will be a very sketchy area. And I'm not sure to what shopping your realtor was referring when he/she said it was close (other than the Dominicks grocery a block away), or which great schools to which he/she was referring, but that's definitely not the case.

^^Schools are not great (@ Division and Larrabee), I can tell you that. Your kids would go to the same schools that Cabrini kids do but I do prefer that location over the two others. It's easy to get downtown there and close to the beach but I wouldn't be walking around past 11 because of Cabrini. Also, if you are looking at the mixed income development there, there are some hassles that will come along with that.

With three kids though, honestly, you should be looking in the far NW side of the city where public school are more palatable or the burbs.

njcity - i hate to say it but honestly, with 3 small kids, i think none of the locations are good. there are MUCH safer areas of chicago, even nearby the division address (further east). i'm not sure what your budget is but i would keep looking. if you need help with any specific addresses, feel free to PM me
