Good day, I re-posted on Italian restaurants in Chicago. So SOMEwhat on the same topic, what are your thoughts on the Italian delis in Chicago? I miss Miceli's from the 24th and Oakley area! ;( I have been to Tony's Deli in Edison Park a few times. I've ridden my bicycle past Gio's in Bridgeport, but never went in, and since have heard very good things from a co-worker who grew up in Canaryville. I've also ridden my bike and driven past Bari's on Grand Avenue, yet never went in (and they get great reviews!). And I've seen a couple on the north side stretch of Harlem Avenue. I'm interested to hear your thoughts.- Master Jay in Milwaukee

I would recommend Freddy's Pizza in Cicero on 16th street. This is coming from someone who used to work at Glorioso's on Brady St. Don't let the name fool you, they're definitely a deli, and they have a small grocery section too. They make everything fresh daily - pastas, italian sausage, sandwiches to order, gelato, italian ice, etc.

I strongly second Freddy's. They are located in Cicero, not in Chicago but close enough. There are also a bunch of Italian restaurants and deli's up Harlem Avenue. Its a safe area and many to be found there.

ToriaT, thank you, too. I rarely get to Cicero, but Freddy's will be the place. As many times as I've been on Harlem, I never stopped at their delis! I did take the kids once to a restaurant near Harlem and North. I believe it was called Sarrentos.Take care- Master Jay in Milwaukee

My recommendation for an Italian deli in Chicago is Conte di Savoia. It has 2 locations on the Near West Side: 1438 W. Taylor and 2227 W. Taylor. The main location is the 1438 store. Besides being a deli, it has packaged and frozen Italian foods, some fresh produce, imported wines and spirits, etc.

The second location operates limited hours and is basically a deli and sandwich shop. One bonus with this site is that it's across the street from the Original Ferrara's Bakery.

Check out the reviews on Yelp. Conte di Savoia was given a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Buon appetito!

does anyone know a deli that makes Italian beefs freshly roasted beef. Something that is better than pertillos, al' s beef, johnies beef. I like all these places but I heard some Italian delis make beefs and want to try something new/ better . The last time I want to pertillos since they were bought the beef tasted a lol different . I want to try an Italian beef made from a fresh beef roast.

NearWest, I periodically make Taylor Street visits. I'll keep an eye out for your recommendations. For dinner, I usually do Rosebud. Patrick, the Server, is awesome. Thank you! Master Jay in Milwaukee
