I would say it definitely caters to monied hipsters in WP/Bucktown. The cocktails are wonderful and like the same owned Whistler in LS, exquisitely well-made. But one definitely needs to have some hipster cache to avoid a 45 minute wait outside of it's unmarked door.

Or go for pre-dinner drinks at 6 when they open as my co-worker does.

Blueline Clubcar is the place to go for pre-dinner drinks, though if you are doing it correctly you won't be able to make it to dinner after a couple.

Blueline is one of the most unpretentious bars that I've been to in WP. Everyone is friendly and plays board games. I almost finished a mean game of scrabble before I moved onto checkers.

Oh no, I agree. I also love the outwardly surly looking, tattooed waitresses who turn out to be sweet as apple pie and work for every bit of their 20%.

LOVE Blueline, though we've gone for brunch more often than we've gone for drinks. Might just have to correct that!

I'm no authority but I have a feeling you have to know where to go - and on what nights of the week as well, to be in with the in crowd.
I think Rainbo is the epitome of the hipster bar in Chicago, in general.
Also, no one has mentioned the Continental, Club Foot or Cobra Lounge, which are all great places to enjoy a drink among the city's younger, trendsetting crowd.
