As many of you are aware, Metra has undertaken a campaign of fare increases over the past decade. Since these have always been a fixed dollar amount instead of a percentage, the riders traveling the shortest distance have been hosed the most. Those going 3 zones pay an average of 70 cents a mile! Now a politician wants to have the short term fares brought down, but only for riders of the Metra Electric. I know, some of you are thinking "South side clout!" But what do you think? Should fares between A and C, or F and H, be brought down across the board, or just on the South Side? Are you afraid of Metra losing money, or will higher ridership make up for it?

Doesn't the Metra Electric go to Indiana? they both share the same tracks, but one goes south and the other goes east to Indiana. could have something to do with that.

No, you are referring to the South Shore, which has trackage rights from Kensington to downtown, but is not allowed to haul passengers on the shared track.
