I just saw this afternoon. The secret service takes up one sidewalk and the news folks and photographers just about block off the other sidewalk.

So I guess the muggers are walking down the middle of the street.

You'd be crazy not to take this opportunity (have you seen the homes between 47th and 51st on Greenwood and Ellis -- not exactly a war zone!). I walk down this block with my five year old after dark. For fun, I recommend Third World Cafe a couple of blocks east as a good local hangout. New Market in Kimbark plaza is only a couple of blocks away to do shopping. washington park is fine but not really necessary unless you are organizing a soccer or softball game -- probably nichols park is cozier. It's a great neighborhood.

Any thoughts? I don't think we will do much wandering at night but the owners said they feel safe at night going to from Metra as well as early in the morning.

I know there are crimes that happen but what about general safety, especially during the day? I know it is nearing drexel and washington parks but is it far enough away to avoid some of those problems?

We will just be in there for the summer and it will be free rent! Any thoughts would be great!
My boyfriend is working construction on a condo rehab near there. I was asking him if he thought it was a good neighborhood, and he said it's pretty nice and definitely seems "up and coming." I'd say if you've got the place free for the summer, go for it!
