Well as you can see somewhat from my pics many buildings are going up around there-bringing the population up dramatically. Now that they have a park they feel they can make a new neighborhood name around it.

The East Side (the original East Side) has never been "so dangerous". It's not what it once was but it's definitely not what you're portraying it to be.

I think it is great! More real estate availible for those who do not want to drive an hour and a half each way! With the amount of new development constantly expanding suburbia until it overtakes areas like Joliet and Huntley, it is good that someone is looking into expanding residential opportunites right near work giving more people the opportunity to not spend those countless hours in their car.

I am moving into the Tides in Feb. I was going to go for Left Bank at K Station, but opted for for this building instead. Ultimately I felt as though there would be more for me to do in the "New Eastside", plus I have an AMAZING view of the Chicago river.

Do the St Patty's Day festivities make it down the river that far? Will I have a good view from my balcony?

Also, I felt really safe around that area, and researched what criminal activity had been reported there. Mostly petty crimes such as theft, but not a lot of assault cases. In fact I don't remember seeing any.

I work out of MDW and will be traveling back and forth for work a couple of times per week. How is the EL around there? Will it be a pretty safe walk from the Tides to Randolph/Wabash? I think that is where I get on the orange line to MDW.

Also, when I am coming home late at night, and I dont want to make the walk from the EL to the TIdes, is it relatively easy to catch a cab? Are there just a ton of them at each EL stop?

I don't know the East Side now but it wasn't dangerous at all in the old days unless you gave the wrong guy some lip in a tavern by the mills. I used to work down there a lot in the steel mills and at State Line powerhouse. Lots of good bars and restaurants down there---Fees, The Lakeside, The Import Tap, Puccis and the Golden Shell come to mind.

We were working 7 days around the clock building a new blast furnace at Wisconsin Steel when the mill closed down. It was the winter of 79-80 and I was on nights. We were getting ready to set the downcomer when the place closed up, just like that.
