You guys are going to hate me and I actually think this is a great idea, but I have to close it while we figure out copyright issues. It has been brought to my attention that some of these pictures are violated our copyright TOS. So, while I work this out with my fellow moderators (I'm seeking out help on this because I really do want to keep this going in some form) I have to temporary close this. AH. Sorry and I'll reopen as soon as we figure this out and the copyrighted images are removed (if you notice, many pics have the (c) for copyright on them.)

OK, this is re-opened. You can't post pictures on here that you get off the internet (ie., that aren't yours). If you find pics online you'd like to share, just post the link here. I know, it's not as easy to see, but this is the only way to keep the thread open. If there are any more violations of copyright, I will have to close the thread.

I'm not sure how it's a copyright violation if the publisher allows hotlinking, but I suppose it's better to err on the side of caution.

Well, some of them may be OK, but I wasn't about to sit here and try to figure out which ones were are were not (I'm not sure how to even tell). Many had the (c) in the picture, so you could tell that some are copyrighted.... |

Well, hotlinking is when an outside website can load an image directly onto their own website by linking to your image. This is completely optional; if the publisher doesn't want to allow that ability, they can just turn hotlinking off so an image can be viewed only from their own website. By turning hotlinking on, they implicitly allow the image to be used by other websites. And in any event, better to err on the side of caution.

I thought if credit was given, as well as the link, its ok to post the image? I would never claim them as my own, hence all the links. |

To have the actual image appear on this website is akin to republishing it. Something the originating website has the technical ability to stop if it really bothered them that much... but again, they're erring on the side of caution here. |

I know that you were siting and giving credit, but we can't repost pics or articles, even if they have links. We can post links though. If anyone has any futher questions about this you can DM me.
Otherwise, this is a really good threads so you can keep it going (people can still click all of the links and see the good pictures) |
