There was some discussion on the berywntalk site about a Costco, but it looks like the current plan is to get a Food4Less.

I'd love to get a Costco nearby so I don't have to drive to Oak Brook. At least Trader Joe is coming soon to Oak Park.

Why don't these sburbs have big box stores like Berwyn, Stickney, Oak Park, And surrounding burubs except Evergreen park, and even Oak lawn.

I talked to a broker and he says this is a ddead coridor meaning retail is very low in this area until you get past lagrange or Hodgkins.

I would love for them to totally convert that whole area into something nice that will atrract more comers to the area and brighten things up but berwyn is not different than the area around 26 and Blue Island, just old town values no moderenism like the west.

They except it in places like Downers Grove or Bolingbrook but not the suburbs near the city.

This is one of the only cities than have suburbs that are close to being city like meaning new comvers think their still in the city.

If you're referring to the stretch of Cermak Rd where the spindle used to be, I have to disagree. The North Riverside Mall is right there with a Best Buy and a Jewel, and on 14th & Cermak there's a shopping center with a Home Depot, a Target (I think it's even a SuperTarget), and a bunch of other stores.

You really think Big Box stores will solve anything? They need to get with the program and modify their stores for an urban lifestyle. I think I'd freak if they tried to cram a big box store with a football-field-sized parking lot into Oak Park! Oak Park should have urban big box like Lincoln Park, and I'm not talking about Clybourn (i.e. the Home Depot on Halsted or the Best Buy on Clark).

It was kind of an eyesore, but it was certainly an easy landmark to pick out when giving directions.

Smile Change is inevitable

The spindle is gone, and in a few weeks most will forget it was even there in the first place. 52 condo units with new retail space are going up at Oak Park Ave. and Stanley, it will be huge in size and effect on the area, both good and bad. Freedom Middle School on Ridgeland, and a Chili's on Cermak. The Chicagoland area is a metropolis unlike any other, and it is growing and making room for even more growth. Ahhh, the future, the present, the past.... anyone notice the new Zacatacos on Harlem?
