Whats the best route (safest) way to get to United Center from Congress off of Rt. 88? Can anyone advise? Last time I was there I went through some shakey neighborhoods, and I want to avoid that as I have to go there tomorrow night with my 5 year old. Can anyone let me know the safest route to take? Thanks in advance!

take 88 to the eisenhower, exit north on damen. Only need to be on damen for about 1/2 a mile until you hit the UC

have fun

Thanks! Just got back from the game, we lost 5-3 to Boston, but it was a great game! I took Damen north to Madison, neighborhood was AOK, MUCH better than it used to be a few years back.

oh it's a little better but I still wouldn't plan on hanging out in the neighborhood much after the game Tragically the west side of Chicago is still just a mess and best avoided. The area east of the UC has improved a lot and there's new lofts/condos etc.

It figures, the hawks finally have 19000 people show up to see them and they immediately go down 4-0...at least they made a game of it at the end

Yeah, but the 'hawks still rock, regardless of a loss. Theyve been doing good lately and hope they can continue the trend. And as a little fact, the 'hawks still have the NHL record for the highest attendance records, averaging over 22K a game or something like that.

Default United Center

My husband and I are headed to the United Center for a Bulls game in April. Neither one of us is all to familiar with that part of Chicago. Do we need to take any extra precaustions when traveling there or be overly concerned about crime in the area?

Don't leave obviously valuable items within view of your car, assuming you're driving. Other than that, no.

There is no reason to worry. The parking lots surrounding the UC are well lit and guarded. The walk from the lots to the UC is very short and will be filled with other fans going to the game as well, really, nothing to worry about, it's safe.

^ thats of course if they are driving to the game and not taking a bus or the L. Like everyone else said the immediate area around the UC an hour before and an hour after an event will be safe. Just the normal people asking for change and trying to sell you anything. Just remember that the UC isnt in the best neighborhood so if you wander away at night you could be asking for trouble.

terrible part of chicago. that's why word of the shooting at UIC, over the weekend, didn't surprise me. a few of my friends used to live over there. when we would leave at 3 or 4 in the morning...yeah...let's just say red lights can be dangerous. especially, the red lights by liquor stores.
